This morning the sky was covered again - as well as yesterday. It was even still a little colder; minus 4 degrees.
The first ski racers who went to the very top with the chair / gondola lift noticed that above the sun was
shining. During the day the sun was shining at the mid station and also at the start area, too. The ski racers
were happy and looked forward to the warm sunshine. But in the middle of the race course, it was strong
foggy on the track and so the race jury had to interrupt this race two-times.
From 10:00 on the giant slalom started - only a few people came to the finish area, but shortly thereafter quite
a lot of spectators came suddenly.
In the women class indeed there was no usual positions because Veronika Grygarova (CZE) finally achieved the
2nd place. Tereza Kmochova (CZE) won again with 1:50.82 ahead to Veronika Grygarova (CZE) and Rea Hraski
(CRO).
In the women junior class Rea Hraski (CRO) won over Kristina Köck (AUT) and Beatrice Brunnbauer (AUT).
In the men class the Swiss Philipp Steiner won with 1:48.41 the giant slalom. It was the fourth gold medal for
him at this championship. Christoph Lebelhuber (AUT) and Nicolas Sarremejane (FRA) achieved the silver and
bronze medal.
In the men junior class Max Pähler (GER) led at the 1st run, but at the 2nd run he dropped out unfortunately.
Simon Glatt (GER) scored his biggest international success and won his gold medal with 1:56.08 ahead to
Alexander Müller (GER; +1.05 sec.) and Daichi Kitajo (JPN; +1.36 sec.).
In the master class David Pelletier from France won again with 1:50.70 the gold medal before Philipp
Eisenmann (GER) and Oswald Strickner (AUT).
All in all 2 was disqualified, because they were fallen and then have run still further down and 7 starters
haven’t come into the final line (4 times at the 1st run and 3 times at the 2nd run).
The former finance minister Dr. Theo Waigel could honor the winners of the today’s race at the medal
ceremony. The movie teams (one of them from the Bavaria TV – Bayerischer Rundfunk; this movie will be
published in the TV on 15th March) were present and interviewed the ski racers and Dr. Theo Waigel.
After that the Youth of the Bavarian Sports Federation could organize the discussion with the ski racers from
different nations in the pavilion. The racers gave them interesting answers to their questions. Kilian Knörzer,
the vice president of the Bavarian Deaf Sport Federation for Youth (BGSJ), moderated this discussion. It was an
exciting experience for the athletes and the youth people. Maybe they get more motivation to be ski racers in
future.
Tomorrow at the last champion day we will continue with the slalom.
During the last technical meeting the jury decided to kick off the slalom race 30 minutes earlier to 9:30
because the weather will be very warm. Thus they want to avoid injuries of the athletes and cancellation of the
slalom race tomorrow. All team captains accepted this decision.
